The Office of Presidential Infrastructure Initiative (OPII) has mandated an accelerated construction schedule for the $124 million Lungi International Conference Centre and associated Presidential Villas. This was disclosed today, as resolutions of a meeting held on Wednesday 25th 2026.

Chairman Dr. Eldred Taylor confirmed that while the comprehensive master plan includes a luxury hospitality component, technical resources have been strategically prioritized toward the completion of conference facilities and high-security residential units. This prioritization ensures compliance with the firm deadline for the ECOWAS Summit of Heads of State, scheduled for June 2026.

To guarantee that the summit venue meets international standards by the second quarter of 2026, hotel development will be phased to follow the primary conference infrastructure.

This initiative is designed to transition Lungi from a transit hub into a premier regional destination for Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions (MICE).

Government officials consider the successful execution of this summit a significant benchmark for Sierra Leone’s evolving infrastructure and logistical capabilities.

The Project Management Technical Committee (PMTC) has instituted weekly site inspections to maintain rigorous oversight, ensuring the June completion date remains a primary objective.
