Man Remanded in $2,000 Canadian Visa Scam

A Freetown court has remanded a man accused of orchestrating a $2,000 Canadian visa scam, with his case slated to resume next month.

Andrew Danny Stephanus Lahai appeared today before Magistrate Adama Kandeh at Pademba Road Magistrate Court No. 4, facing a single count of obtaining money by false pretenses, in violation of Section 32(1) of the Larceny Act of 1916.

Prosecutor Inspector A.T. Bangura alleges that between July 7 and July 14, 2025, Lahai deceitfully obtained $2,000 from Isatu Kargbo at Fides’ Law Chambers on Bright Lane, Cole Farm, Wilkinson Road, Freetown.

It is claimed that Lahai falsely promised to secure a Canadian visa and facilitate Osman Bundu's travel to Canada, despite knowing these claims were untrue.

During the hearing, defense lawyer A. Amara informed the court that the defense was pursuing an alternative settlement and would provide an update on its progress. He also requested bail for the accused.

However, Magistrate Kandeh denied bail, ordering Lahai to be remanded at the Male Correctional Facility. The case has been adjourned to September 4, 2025.
