Labour Ministry Vows to Protect Workers Amid Marampa Mines Shutdown

The Ministry of Employment, Labour and Social Security has pledged to continue engaging Marampa Mines Limited (MML) to ensure workers receive their legal entitlements amid the company’s planned temporary suspension of operations.

In a public notice dated October 26, 2026, the Ministry said it had previously engaged the company’s management and the workers’ union to address challenges facing the mining company and take proactive steps to protect the rights of all parties.

The statement follows MML’s announcement that it plans to temporarily suspend operations, citing economic and other operational challenges. The planned shutdown has raised concerns about its potential impact on the company’s workforce.

“Both parties (Ministry and the Union) will continue to engage the management to ensure that workers receive their legal entitlements during this period,” the Ministry stated.

The Ministry also expressed solidarity with both workers and management, pledging to maintain constructive engagement with the company as it navigates the challenges.

However, the notice did not specify how many employees could be affected, which entitlements were under discussion, or when the planned suspension would take effect.

The Ministry said it would continue working with the union and company management to address the situation and safeguard workers’ rights during this period of uncertainty.
