Former Sierra Leonean President Ernest Bai Koroma has joined African leaders, policymakers, diplomats, and security experts in Bahir Dar, Ethiopia, for the 12th Tana High-Level Forum on Security in Africa. The three-day gathering, between October 23 to 25, focused on developing collaborative strategies to strengthen peace, stability, and economic resilience across the continent.

Centered around the theme "Pathways to Peace in Africa: Economic Sovereignty and Geopolitical Transformation," this year's forum addressed pressing regional security threats. Delegates examinee actionable ways African nations can enhance their economic independence, leverage natural resources for sustainable development, and navigate increasingly complex international dynamics.

The high-level discussions arrived at a critical juncture, as ongoing conflicts in Sudan, Somalia, and South Sudan continue to test regional stability alongside heightened global competition over strategic resources. Forum participants emphasized the imperative of robust institutional governance, effective mediation, and unified African-led solutions to mitigate disputes before they escalate.

As part of the main agenda, Koroma featured prominently in a key panel session titled "From the Margins to the Centre: Building an African Model for Peace and Sovereignty in an Age of Geopolitical Rivalry." His contribution leverages Sierra Leone's post-conflict transition and diplomatic experience to offer practical insights on democratic governance and conflict resolution.

The forum wrapped up on October 25 with a shared set of policy recommendations intended to reinforce national sovereignty, foster accountable leadership, and establish lasting security frameworks throughout Africa.
