Mayor Aki-Sawyerr Unveils Transform Freetown Mid-Term Report
According to "Transform Freetown – Transforming Lives" Mid-Term Report, published today, approximately 161,000 residents have directly benefited from 50 targeted interventions implemented across the Council's four strategic priorities: Climate Action, Heritage Tourism, Digital Economy, and Human Capital Development over the two-year period.
Speaking on funding and strategic partnerships, Mayor Aki-Sawyerr disclosed that the Council successfully mobilized approximately US$12 million in external resources with more than 90 percent of these funds being managed directly by implementing partners on behalf of the Council to enhance transparency.
During the launch ceremony residents including Agnes Kanu, Mbalu Kamara, Yalie Tenneh Kargbo, and Saibatu Sandy offered personal testimonials on how the initiatives have improved their daily lives and local communities.
Key international development partners and national stakeholders were also present to reflect on their collaborative work with the Council.
Freetown City Council and the National Protected Area Authority (NPAA) represented by Executive Director Sheikh Ahmed Tunis ceremoniously signed a concessional agreement to strengthen inter-agency collaboration in protecting Freetown's natural environment and advancing urban resilience against climate risks.
Recognizing municipal excellence, the Council formally commended staff members from its Environmental and Sanitation, Finance, and Metropolitan Police departments for their outstanding service and contributions to the city's development.
While presenting the benchmark results, Mayor Aki-Sawyerr acknowledged that substantial work remains ahead. She expressed sincere gratitude to residents, city councillors, municipal staff, government institutions, development partners, private sector leaders, and local stakeholders for their sustained commitment.
She reaffirmed that the Transform Freetown agenda remains resolutely focused on enhancing citizen welfare and advancing a cleaner, greener, more inclusive, and economically resilient municipal vision.
