A Wilberforce mechanic, Arab Kamara, has been remanded in custody after appearing before Magistrate Sao Mamakoh Kallon at Pademba Road Court No. 3, accused of stealing vehicle spare parts entrusted to him for repairs.

Kamara faces a single count of larceny. Police allege that Kamara stole spare parts, valued at Le6,450, from a Mercedes-Benz ML vehicle given to him for maintenance by his neighbor and complainant, Samuel Ndoye.

In his testimony, Ndoye stated he handed over his vehicle and parts to Kamara for repairs, trusting their neighborly relationship. However, Ndoye claims Kamara subsequently disappeared with both the vehicle and its components. Ndoye expressed regret over his misplaced trust in Kamara.

Detective Police Constable (DPC) Michael Ansuman Conteh of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) in Freetown recounted that on March 15, 2025, he and fellow officers were assigned to investigate a larceny case involving a vehicle parked along Wilberforce-Lumley Road.

Conteh observed that several parts were missing from the Benz ML. He took a statement from Ndoye and later, on May 3, 2025, obtained a caution statement from Kamara regarding the allegations.

Although Kamara cooperated during the interview, he refused to sign the statement, which was recorded in English.

Magistrate Kallon denied Kamara bail, citing the seriousness of the offense, and ordered his remand at the Pademba Road Male Correctional Centre.

The case has been adjourned to Thursday, September 4, 2025.
