At the 2026 International Strategic Communication Summit (Stratcom Summit) in Istanbul, Sierra Leone’s Minister of Information and Civic Education, the Honourable Chernor Bah, detailed the nation’s proactive measures against the global proliferation of misinformation.
Hosted by Türkiye’s Presidency Communications Directorate, the summit convened an international assembly of government officials, diplomats, and communications experts to address the complex challenges of modern information management.
During the opening sessions and subsequent interviews with TRT, AfroTurk TV, and CGTN, Minister Bah underscored that transparency, robust media literacy, and active citizen engagement are fundamental to neutralizing misinformation.
He emphasized that the unchecked spread of false information represents a significant threat to global public trust and the integrity of democratic governance.
Minister Bah highlighted Sierra Leone’s multi-faceted response, which includes strategic partnerships with local media, comprehensive digital literacy initiatives, and the development of regulatory frameworks designed to mitigate the impact of harmful digital content.
Addressing the broader geopolitical landscape, the Minister remarked on the local repercussions of ongoing international tensions involving Israel, the United States, and Iran, noting that despite geographical distance, the economic impact remains substantial.
“Our nation is navigating the challenges of escalating fuel prices and increased import costs, which are placing significant pressure on the cost of living for our citizens,” Minister Bah stated.
He further observed that disruptions to global trade and energy markets are affecting both the private sector and public expenditure, affirming that the government is actively working to manage these external economic pressures.
The Stratcom Summit continues to provide a vital platform for international collaboration, enabling countries to share expertise in promoting credible information and refining strategic communications.
