Minister Sackey Hands Over Digital Tools to Boost Students’ Digital Skills
As a bridge for digital divide, Minister of Basic and Senior Secondary School Education Conrad Sackey has handed over digital tools to young students on Monday, September 28, 2026. The initiative aims to enhance digital literacy and equip Sierra Leone’s youth with essential skills for modern learning, entrepreneurship, and technical innovation.
Speaking at the ceremony, Minister Sackey underscored the imperative of keeping the nation's youth aligned with global technological advancements. Students across Freetown, Makeni, Port Loko, Kenema, and Ho are gaining hands-on exposure to coding, e-learning platforms, and digital development tools designed to foster workforce readiness in the modern economy.
“This initiative goes far beyond the distribution of hardware,” Sackey stated, emphasizing that access to technology is a catalyst for unlocking potential and exploring new career frontiers.
Beyond digital literacy, the Minister highlighted entrepreneurship as a cornerstone for national growth, encouraging young people to build their own enterprises rather than relying solely on traditional employment pathways.
Additionally, Sackey reaffirmed the government’s commitment to Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET). Recognizing that academic pursuits are not the sole route to success, he called for strong institutional support and equal recognition for practical skill-building in Sierra Leone’s development strategy.
Emphasizing the vital role of educators, the Minister urged teachers and school principals to actively guide students in maximizing these digital resources. He noted that the true value of technology relies heavily on the vision and capability of those who utilize it.
In his closing remarks, Minister Sackey issued a call to action for the youth to transcend environmental limitations and seize the available tools to shape their futures.
“The government believes in the potential of Sierra Leone’s youth and has placed the tools in your hands,” Sackey asserted. “The responsibility now lies with you to determine what you will build.”
