Two men linked to the Ministry of Health and Sanitation were remanded in custody following their first court appearance on Tuesday.
Mohamed Kamara, 40, a driver, and Mohamed Conteh, 28, a mechanic, face charges of conspiracy and theft involving a high-value government vehicle.
The defendants appeared before Magistrate Mustapha Braima Jah at Pademba Road Court No.1, accused of conspiring to commit a felony and stealing a Toyota Land Cruiser, registration number AXP 063, valued at approximately 860,000 Leones (USD 40,000), property of the Ministry of Health and Sanitation.
Court documents allege that on September 5th, 2025, at the National Health Agency Emergency Operations Center in Cockril, Freetown, Kamara and Conteh conspired with unknown persons to unlawfully steal the vehicle during their official duties.
During proceedings, the charges were read and explained, but no plea was entered. Prosecutor Assistant Superintendent of Police Ibrahim S. Mansaray requested a short adjournment to call the first witness. The defendants are represented by lawyers W.V. Gaber Esq. and I. Dele Taylor Esq.
Citing the seriousness of the allegations, Magistrate Jah denied bail and adjourned the case to September 29th, 2025, for further hearing.
