Mogbwemo Queens Suffer Heavy Defeat in CAF Women's Champions League Qualifier

Sierra Leonean champions Mogbwemo Queens FC suffered a disappointing 5–1 defeat to Gambian side Berewuleng FC in their opening fixture of the ongoing WAFU A CAF Women’s Champions League Qualifiers in The Gambia.

Gambian forward Sarah Jarju was the star of the encounter, scoring four goals to lead Berewuleng to a commanding victory at the OJ Jallow Memorial Mini Stadium.

Mogbwemo Queens fell behind in the 15th minute when Jarju opened the scoring for the hosts. The Sierra Leonean side’s task became even more difficult in the 37th minute when goalkeeper Godoui Ahouefa Larissa was sent off for bringing down Jarju outside the penalty area and denying a clear goalscoring opportunity.

Despite going into halftime trailing by a single goal, Mogbwemo Queens faced an even tougher challenge in the second half after being reduced to ten players.

Berewuleng doubled their advantage in the 75th minute when Jarju converted from the penalty spot after substitute Marie Pereira was brought down inside the area.

Mogbwemo Queens responded four minutes later, reducing the deficit in the 79th minute through Marguerite Semedeton Ahouasson to give the Sierra Leonean champions a brief boost of hope.

However, Berewuleng regained control of the match, with Jarju completing her hat-trick before adding a fourth goal later in the encounter to seal a convincing 5–1 victory.

The defeat marks a difficult start to Mogbwemo Queens’ campaign, but the Sierra Leonean champions will look to bounce back in their remaining fixtures as they continue their pursuit of qualification in the WAFU A CAF Women’s Champions League.
