MOYA Engages AfDB to Embed Youth Priorities in 2026 National Reform Agenda

The Ministry of Youth Affairs hosted a high-level delegation from the African Development Bank (AfDB) on Tuesday, July 14, 2026, as part of the Bank’s 2026 Policy Based Operation (PBO) Appraisal Mission. The discussions, held at the Ministry’s headquarters at Scan Drive, focused on integrating youth development firmly into Sierra Leone’s national reform and economic transformation goals.
Minister of Youth Affairs Ibrahim Sannoh reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to driving youth empowerment through strategic partnerships and inclusive policies. Minister Sannoh emphasized that ensuring young people are actively involved in the development process is a critical prerequisite for achieving sustainable economic growth in Sierra Leone.
The engagement allowed both parties to assess how youth development priorities can complement the AfDB’s broader reform agenda for 2026, which includes objectives such as enhancing fiscal efficiency, transparency, and sustainable reforms within the mining and transport sectors.
The AfDB delegation included Senior Country Economist Prosper Charles, Senior Fragility and Resilience Officer Alex Yeanay, and Development Economist Dr. Ali Compaore.
Together with Ministry officials, the delegation explored opportunities to expand youth employment, bolster skills development, and build the institutional capacity necessary to better support young people nationwide.
Both the Ministry and the AfDB reaffirmed their commitment to deepening this collaboration to ensure that the 2026–2028 Policy Based Operations deliver meaningful, lasting benefits for Sierra Leone’s young population.
