Mambu Dismisses Political Impact of Koroma's Return on 2028 Election

The National Publicity Secretary of the Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP), Moses Mambu, has downplayed the political significance of former President Ernest Bai Koroma’s return to the country, asserting that it will not undermine the ruling party's chances in the 2028 general election.

Speaking in a recent interview on AYV, Mambu addressed public speculation surrounding the former president’s return, acknowledging that while the development has sparked mixed reactions, the ruling party remains unfazed. He argued that the political fortunes of the SLPP should not be contingent upon the movements or presence of any single individual.

“For me and the SLPP, the return of former President Ernest Bai Koroma does not mean SLPP will lose the 2028 election,” Mambu stated.

He emphasized that the party, operating under the leadership of President Julius Maada Bio and Sir Jimmy Batilo Songa, remains fully confident in its platform and electoral prospects.

Mambu went a step further to predict a decisive victory for the SLPP in the upcoming polls, claiming the party is on track to win in the first round. He grounded this confidence in the party’s focus on national priorities rather than individual political dynamics, noting that “the interest of Sierra Leoneans is above every other person’s interest”.

The comments come against the backdrop of heightened political debate regarding the impact of the former president’s return on the nation's political landscape. Mambu reiterated that the party’s primary objective remains its ongoing programmes and direct engagement with citizens. 

He maintained that the SLPP is focused on convincing voters through its track record and policy agenda as the nation looks toward the 2028 elections.
