Murder and Human Trafficking Cases Head to Preliminary Investigation
In a series of significant legal proceedings at the Magistrate Court No. 1 in Bo, His Worship Magistrate Alhaji Sulaiman Koroma has presided over two high-profile criminal cases involving murder and human trafficking charges.
On August 4, 2026, Moray Fofanah, a farmer from Njabahun village, appeared in court to face a single count of murder. The defendant is accused of the killing of Moinya Fofanah on July 5, 2026, in Njabahun village, Badjia Chiefdom, within the Bo District.
The charge was brought under Section 1 of the Offences Against the Person Act 1861, as amended by the Abolition of the Death Penalty Act 2022. Due to the nature of the offense, no plea was taken during the initial appearance. Magistrate Koroma ordered the defendant to be remanded at the Sierra Leone Correctional Centre (SLCC) in Bo, pending a preliminary investigation (PI).
In a separate development, three individuals—Aminata Koroma (also known as Jeneba Bassay), Ibrahim Bassay, and Hafeezu Koroma—were arraigned on charges of conspiracy and attempted human trafficking.
The prosecution alleges that the defendants, all residents of Sanako in Bo City, conspired with unidentified persons on July 1, 2026, at Koribondo Town, Jaima Chiefdom, to traffic one Agnes Kamara.
The charges are based on Section 28 of the Anti-Human Trafficking Act No. 12 of 2022. Similar to the murder case, no pleas were entered, and all three defendants were remanded to the Sierra Leone Correctional Centre in Bo as the court prepares for a preliminary investigation.
Both matters are being prosecuted by Police Inspector Abdul Karim Kamara (popularly known as AKK) from the Legal and Justice Support Department of the Bo Police Division.
The court has adjourned both cases to allow for the commencement of the preliminary investigations.
