Musa Tarawally Rejects Dual Membership Claims, Threatens Legal Action

Hon. Alhaji Musa Tarawally has rejected claims that he is simultaneously a member of the Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) and the Citizens Democratic Party (CDP), describing the allegations as untrue and misleading.

Tarawally made the clarification in a letter dated September 18, 2026, addressed to SLPP National Chairman Jimmy Batilo Songa, in response to correspondence concerning his membership of the party.

According to Tarawally, he resigned from the CDP in 2018 and subsequently returned to the SLPP. He cited a resignation letter dated June 15, 2018, which he said he attached to his response as evidence of his departure from the CDP.

He also presented evidence of subscription payments to the SLPP, maintaining that the records demonstrate his continued membership of the party.

Tarawally said he is a fully paid-up member of the SLPP, a Grand Chief Patron and National Delegate, while reaffirming his intention to contest for the party’s flagbearer position.

He further challenged the SLPP Chairman’s authority to terminate his party membership, arguing that disciplinary matters involving members should be handled through the party’s National Executive Council and in accordance with established disciplinary procedures.

The SLPP aspirant also accused the Chairman’s letter of damaging his reputation and described the alleged conduct as an act of cyberbullying.

Tarawally said he has instructed his legal team to explore possible legal action over the matter, including potential claims under Sierra Leone’s Cyber Security and Cyber Crime Act 2021, civil proceedings for defamation, and constitutional remedies.

He maintained that he remains a member of the SLPP and said he will continue with his bid for the party’s flagbearer position.
