National Task Force Meets to Boost Kush Rehabilitation Efforts

On Thursday, October 24, 2025, key members of the National Task Force on Drug-Related Substances met at the National Public Health Agency (NPHA) headquarters in Wilberforce to review and strengthen kush rehabilitation efforts across Sierra Leone.

The meeting, chaired by the Acting Minister of Health, Professor Dr. Charles Senesie, and hosted by Professor Foday Sahr, Executive Director of NPHA and National Coordinator for the Task Force, brought together representatives from the health, security, education, youth, and civil society sectors.

Discussions centered on plans to reopen the Hastings and Gondama rehabilitation centers, as well as beds at the Kissy Psychiatric Hospital, all in phases. Members also expressed support for launching a new rehabilitation facility in Daru next week.

Mental health care will remain a core component of all rehabilitation services, focusing on the emotional and psychological challenges behind substance abuse. In addition, a national data dashboard is being developed to track admissions, recovery progress, and facility capacity — ensuring better coordination and transparency
