Neighbours Clash: Banguras Face Trial for Trespass and Insulting Conduct Charges

Mohamed Bangura and Sam Bangura appeared before Magistrate Gbloh at Magistrate Court No. 5 to face three charges: trespass, insulting conduct, and public insult and provocation.

The charges, brought under the Public Order Act No. 46 of 1965, relate to an incident that allegedly occurred on April 14, 2026, at the Kolley Company premises in Aberdeen, Freetown. As the matter is a committal proceeding, no plea has been entered.

Testifying for the defense, Sam Bangura stated that the conflict originated when he intervened after hearing the complainant, AbuBakarr Kargbo, directing insults toward his father, Mohamed Bangura. According to Sam’s testimony, the situation escalated when Kargbo threatened him, slapped him, and used a key held between his fingers to cause physical injury.

A point of contention emerged during the presentation of evidence regarding a photograph of the alleged injury. The prosecution objected to the photo's admissibility, noting a discrepancy between the incident date of April 14 and the date the photo was captured, May 18. Defense counsel attributed the delay to technical issues with the witness’s mobile phone, which necessitated police assistance to document the injury.

Defense witness Ibrahim Kamara, a neighbor, provided corroborating testimony, stating that he heard Kargbo using abusive language toward the defendants. Kamara further alleged that the complainant physically attacked Sam Bangura and used a key to injure him before Kamara intervened to separate the two parties.

The court has adjourned the proceedings until the 10th of the month, and existing bail conditions remain in effect.
