Office of First Lady Clarifies Operational Status and Funding Structure

Wusu Dadida, spokesperson for the Office of the First Lady, has clarified the office’s operational status, defining it as a structural extension of the Presidency within Sierra Leone’s governance framework.

Addressing public speculation concerning the office’s mandate and funding, Dadida emphasized in a statement on Truth Media that the First Lady does not hold a salaried government position. Consequently, the office does not function as a conventional state institution with an independent, direct budgetary allocation.

Instead, the office operates through a collaborative model, coordinating efforts across government ministries, departments, and agencies to implement development and social initiatives. Dadida noted that these programs are facilitated through partnerships with domestic and international stakeholders, with additional support provided via the Office of the President.

This clarification follows ongoing public discourse regarding the accountability, official role, and financial structure of the First Lady’s office.
