New MP Sworn In to Fill Kambia Vacancy Left by Road Accident Tragedy

Honourable Mohamed Shebora Bangura has been sworn in as a Member of Parliament, filling the seat left vacant by the tragic death of Ernest Dura Koroma.

The swearing-in ceremony was presided over by Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Honourable Segepoh Solomon Thomas, who explained that Bangura’s appointment followed the District Block Proportional Representation System Regulations of 2022 and was based on an official notification from the Electoral Commission of Sierra Leone (ECSL).

In accordance with Section 83 of the 1991 Constitution, the Clerk of Parliament administered the oath of office to the new MP.

Bangura, representing Kambia District, succeeds the late Ernest Dura Koroma of the opposition All People’s Congress (APC), who died in a road accident on Tuesday, October 7, 2025. The crash, which also claimed the life of his driver, plunged Tonko Limba Chiefdom and the wider Kambia District into mourning.

The late Koroma was widely respected for his dedication to his community and service in Parliament, and his passing was regarded as a significant loss to both his constituents and the nation.

With Bangura now in office, Kambia District’s representation in Parliament is restored, ensuring that the constituency’s voice continues in the legislative process.
