A Freetown businesswoman has pointed to her former security guard as the main suspect in the alleged theft of more than five thousand dollars from her residence.
Lovetta Kamara, the first prosecution witness in the case, told the court that 30-year-old civil servant Peter Braima, who also serves as a police officer, was responsible for guarding her property at No. 9 Charlotte Village in the Western Area of Freetown.
Kamara explained that she did not personally witness the theft but was informed of Braima’s alleged involvement by a bike rider who is not a member of her household. She further admitted that although CCTV cameras are installed at her home, no footage was provided to the police during the investigation.
The businesswoman said she relies on her staff, including salespersons Mohamed, Adama, and Abdul Rahman, to manage money and provide daily updates, noting that she rarely handles cash herself. Kamara also revealed that Braima received additional pay for his security duties and typically attended church on Sundays, with a colleague covering his post during his absence.
During cross-examination, defense counsel Walter Gaber Esq. confirmed that Braima had a designated security post within the compound and reiterated that Kamara had not provided any CCTV evidence.
After the testimony, the defense renewed a bail application for Braima. However, Magistrate John Manso Fornah denied the request, ordering the accused to be remanded at the Male Correctional Facility in Freetown.
The case has been adjourned to April 14, 2026, for further hearing.
