PALMA Home Celebrates Year of Transforming Mental Health

PALMA Rehabilitation Home, operating under the Public Service Life Foundation, commemorated World Mental Health Day while celebrating its first anniversary on Saturday, Oct. 10, 2026.

The dual celebration brought together government officials, traditional leaders, community members, and key stakeholders to raise awareness about mental health and the rising challenges of substance abuse among young people in the region.

Events commenced with a solidarity walk from Conet Fuel Station along the Freetown Highway to the rehabilitation facility. Notable participants included Paramount Chief Bai Forki Fainka II and his wife, representing the First Family of Maforki Chiefdom. Their attendance highlighted the pivotal role traditional leaders play in addressing substance use and mental health challenges locally.

Following the walk, a formal ceremony provided a platform for community leaders and guests to share perspectives on expanding mental healthcare access. Speakers stressed the need for ongoing collaboration among civil society, healthcare providers, and local government to promote recovery and social reintegration.

Hon. Ibrahim Bundu, Founder and CEO of the Public Service Life Foundation and PALMA Rehabilitation Home, expressed gratitude to supporters and partners who contributed to the institution’s initial year of operation.

“Together, we can make a difference. Together, we can save lives. Together, we can build a healthier and drug-free Sierra Leone,”

Bundu stated, emphasizing that community solidarity strengthens the organization’s resolve to offer care, guidance, and a fresh start to vulnerable youth.

Reflecting on the facility's inaugural year, Bundu acknowledged the operational hurdles encountered along the way. However, he reiterated PALMA’s commitment to supporting state initiatives aimed at reducing substance abuse and urged the public to combat stigma through compassion and structured support.

As PALMA Rehabilitation Home enters its second year, management plans to broaden outreach and rehabilitation programs across the Northwest Region to ensure long-term recovery and community transformation.
