Parliament Contradicts Lawyer's Claim Speaker Missed Court Over Illness

The Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Segepoh Solomon Thomas, was absent from current Supreme Court proceedings regarding challenges to the Constitutional Amendment Bill, leading to conflicting explanations for his absence.
In court, defense lawyer Hindolo Gevao Esq. informed the justices that the Speaker could not attend the hearing because he was unwell with diarrhea.
The Speaker, who presided over the House of Parliament and made the ruling, is a defendant in one of the petitions brought before the court, represented by Hon. Gevao, an active lawyer and current member of the Parliament that debated and passed the now-controversial act.
However, official parliamentary communications contradicted this account, refuting reports of illness as completely unfounded.
According to statements released by parliamentary representatives, Speaker Thomas was outside the country on official assignment in Conakry, attending the State Opening of the 10th Legislature of the 5th Republic of Guinea.
Parliamentary officials added that the Speaker’s physical presence at the Supreme Court was unnecessary as the State was properly represented, while the court proceeds to hear arguments on the constitutionality of the amendments.
