Sierra Leone’s Parliament has received a delegation of Turkish investors as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen economic relations and attract foreign direct investment into the country.
The delegation, led by Sierra Leone’s Ambassador to Türkiye, Francess Virginia Anderson, met with the Rt. Hon. Speaker of Parliament, Segepoh Solomon Thomas, and parliamentary leadership on Tuesday, May 19, 2026, to explore potential investment opportunities across key sectors of the economy.
During the engagement, the Clerk of Parliament, Karmoh K. Conteh, informed the leadership that the institution had earlier received official correspondence from the Sierra Leone Embassy in Türkiye through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation regarding the delegation’s visit.
He explained that the visit forms part of broader diplomatic and economic efforts aimed at deepening bilateral cooperation between Sierra Leone and Türkiye, with a focus on attracting sustainable investment into the country.
Ambassador Anderson expressed appreciation to Parliament for the warm reception and commended the leadership for its continued support in promoting foreign investment initiatives. She noted that Sierra Leone was the delegation’s first point of contact, urging authorities to take full advantage of the opportunity to strengthen economic ties with Türkiye.
She also formally introduced members of the Turkish investor delegation, who expressed gratitude for the hospitality and assurances provided regarding the protection and security of investments in Sierra Leone.
The Leader of Government Business, Mathew Nyuma, welcomed the delegation and assured them that Parliament remains committed to providing the necessary legislative backing to facilitate investment and ensure a conducive business environment.
He emphasized that all investment initiatives must deliver tangible benefits to citizens and contribute meaningfully to national development priorities.
The Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Alpha Sesay, also assured the investors that the government would provide a strong legal framework to protect investments in line with Sierra Leonean laws.
In his remarks, Speaker Thomas described Sierra Leone as a peaceful and stable nation open to international business partnerships.
“Sierra Leone is open for business. Be assured that your investments will be protected here, and our doors remain open whenever you need our support,” he stated.
The Turkish delegation reaffirmed its interest in exploring investment opportunities in sectors aligned with Sierra Leone’s development priorities, including infrastructure, energy, and trade.
The engagement reflects growing economic cooperation between Sierra Leone and Türkiye, as the government continues to position foreign direct investment as a key driver of national growth and development.
