A Freetown motorbike rider, Mohamed Kamanda, has been sentenced to two years in prison for stealing a vehicle belonging to a member of Parliament.
Magistrate John Manso Fornah of Pademba Road Court No. 2 handed down the 24-month prison term after finding Kamanda guilty of larceny, contrary to Section 2 of the Larceny Act of 1916.
Court records show that on Tuesday, December 30, 2025, at the Parliament building in Tower Hill, Kamanda stole a Nissan Amanda V8 Jeep, registration number MDR 001, valued at USD 75,000. Along with the vehicle, other items totaling Le1,827,890 were also reported stolen. The property belonged to Honourable Dixon Momoh Rogers.
When the charges were read and explained, Kamanda pleaded guilty. Prosecuting officer Deputy Superintendent of Police Sorie Conteh informed the court that Kamanda had no prior criminal record and was a first-time offender.
Kamanda, who appeared unrepresented, pleaded with the court for mercy. Magistrate Fornah acknowledged the defendant’s remorse and the fact that he did not personally benefit from the vehicle, which remains in the possession of the owner.
However, the magistrate noted that Kamanda had stolen the vehicle with the intent to sell it and had already taken steps toward that goal.
Kamanda was sentenced to 24 months in prison, to commence immediately. In addition, the court ordered the return of the two vehicle number plates (Exhibits D1-2) to the complainant, in accordance with Section 56(1) of the Criminal Procedure Act 2024.
