Petty Trader Remanded Over Alleged Grievous Bodily Harm in Freetown

Jonathan Williams, a 35-year-old petty trader, has been remanded to the male correctional facility in Freetown following his appearance before Magistrate Mustapha Brima Jah of Pademba Road Court No. 2.

Williams faces two counts related to an alleged assault that took place on Monday, June 8, 2026, at the Belliar Compound in the Western Area of Freetown. He is charged with causing grievous bodily harm with intent, contrary to Section 18 of the Offences Against the Person Act of 1861, and assault occasioning actual bodily harm, contrary to Section 47 of the same Act. The charges stem from an incident involving the complainant, Abdulai Michael Sesay.

Because the proceedings are of a committal nature, no plea was taken during the hearing. Prosecutor DPC 17649 Brima Kargbo confirmed that the defendant has been served with the relevant case and inquiry files, acknowledging receipt of the documentation.

Magistrate Jah denied the defendant's request for bail, citing the severity of the charges. 

The case is scheduled to resume on July 14, 2026.
