The Sierra Leone Police have announced a major breakthrough in their investigation into the brutal murder of Reverend Father Augustine Dauda Amadu in Kenema, arresting five suspects directly linked to the attack. The Five suspects were arrested in connection with the murder case, with a sixth believed to be involved in receiving stolen goods.
The arrests were confirmed by Assistant Commissioner of Police Allieu Jalloh, head of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID), during a press briefing held today, Wednesday, September 10th, 2025, at the Police Officers Mess in Kington, Freetown.
ACP Jalloh detailed that on August 30th, 2025, Reverend Father Augustine was attacked at his parish in Kenema, an assault that tragically resulted in his death. Among the five individuals apprehended are Gbassay Swaray, alias "Success," and Joseph Kamara, alias "Shine," identified as central figures in the incident.
Further investigations have linked these five suspects not only to the Kenema murder but also to an armed robbery that occurred on August 28th in Bo, which left NASSIT Manager Mr. John Lamina injured. Police reports indicate that materials found in the suspects' possession directly implicated them in both incidents.
ACP Jalloh highlighted that two of the suspects, Swaray and Kamara, have prior criminal records. Swaray has faced previous murder charges, while Kamara was involved in an armed robbery in Makeni. While formal charges have not yet been filed, investigations are actively ongoing, and authorities are pursuing additional suspects connected to the murder.
In response to these violent incidents, the Sierra Leone Police have reassured the public of their commitment to maintaining peace and security. Measures implemented include increased security at strategic locations, intensified border and vehicle patrols, and the installation of CCTV cameras in key areas.
The police expressed gratitude to the public for their cooperation and timely information sharing, which has been crucial to the ongoing investigations. Since these incidents, there have been no further reports of armed robberies nationwide, a development attributed to the strengthened operational and administrative measures by the force.
Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) Dr. John Martin Senesie, Director of Operations, further outlined efforts to bolster security, assuring the public that justice will be served for both Reverend Father Augustine’s murder and the attack on Mr. Lamina.
The Sierra Leone Police urge citizens to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity as they work to apprehend all those responsible and ensure lasting peace and security across the country.
