Police Lead Solidarity Visit After Nyapui School Fire

Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) Eastern Region, Mr. Brima Francis Meinday, led a delegation of key stakeholders on a solidarity and assessment visit to Nyapui Secondary School of Excellence for Girls following a recent fire incident.


The fire, which occurred on Tuesday, 3rd February 2026, around 20:15 hours, affected the school’s boarding dormitory at Combema Village. Prompt intervention by the National Fire Force and the Sierra Leone Police successfully contained the blaze, preventing any loss of life and saving other structures within the compound.


During the visit, AIG Meinday and the stakeholders engaged separately with the affected pupils, staff, and management. They offered reassurance of unwavering support from the Sierra Leone Police and government agencies, emphasizing a commitment to ensuring safety, security, and a thorough, systematic investigation into the incident's cause.



The Regional Police Commander expressed deep sympathy to the victims and school authorities, commending the effective emergency response for preventing casualties and minimizing damage. Pupils were encouraged to remain calm and resilient as investigations proceed.


Police deployment remains firmly in place, supervised by the Local Unit Commander, Kenema Division, Chief Superintendent of Police Emmanuel Kpulun, to maintain maximum security. A preliminary crime scene investigation is ongoing, led by the Regional Crime Officer East, Assistant Superintendent of Police Mohamed Hindowa Feika, to establish the cause and guide subsequent actions.


The Sierra Leone Police reiterates its solidarity with the school community, describing the regrettable occurrence as one that underscores the critical importance of inter-agency collaboration and community support in emergencies. The AIG Eastern Region assures the public of their commitment to public safety, accountability, and transparent investigation processes.
