PPRC Maintains APC Executive Pending Court Decision

The Political Parties Regulation Commission (PPRC) has decided to maintain the current executive of the All People’s Congress (APC) to continue running the affairs of the party pending the court’s determination of a legal challenge involving the Commission’s directives on the party’s leadership.

In a press statement issued on August 17, 2026, the PPRC said the decision follows directives it issued to the APC on February 13 regarding the extension of the tenure of the party’s elected officials.

According to the Commission, it extended the tenure of the APC Executive for six months pursuant to Section 39(5) of the Political Parties Act 2022, Act No. 25 of 2022.

The PPRC said its second directive provided that if the APC Executive failed to organise the party’s National Delegates’ Conference within the six-month extension, the APC Leader in Parliament, together with five other Members of Parliament representing each region, would take over the management of the party’s affairs until the conference was held.

However, the Commission disclosed that an APC member has challenged both the PPRC and the party in court over the second directive.

In light of the pending legal proceedings, the PPRC said it has decided to maintain the status quo until the court delivers its decision.

“The status quo shall remain the same pending the determination of the matter in court,” the Commission stated.

The PPRC further clarified that the current APC Executive will continue to manage the affairs of the party while the case remains before the court.

“The current executive members will continue to run the affairs of the party, pending the decision of the Court,” the Commission said.

The Commission said its decision is grounded in its constitutional and statutory mandate to regulate political parties in Sierra Leone.

The decision means that the alternative arrangement involving the APC Parliamentary Leader and five MPs representing the regions will not take effect while the court case is pending.

The development comes amid an ongoing dispute over the tenure of the APC’s elected officials and the process for convening the party’s next National Delegates’ Conference.

For now, the current APC Executive remains responsible for managing the affairs of the party pending the court’s determination of the matter.
