President Julius Maada Bio has reacted to the repeated use of abusive language commonly referred to as “mami cuss,” often directed at him, calling for greater respect for women and an end to the practice.
He made the remarks during Eid-Ul-Adha prayers held at State Lodge in Freetown, where Muslim worshippers gathered for the annual Islamic observance.
Addressing the congregation, President Bio said he does not respond to insults directed at him, adding that he leaves such matters to God.
He cautioned against the use of offensive language, stressing that it reflects disrespect toward women.
“You know it is a woman who gave birth to you, and you are using such insults — something is wrong with you,” he said.
The President urged young people to avoid abusive expressions, emphasizing discipline, respect, and responsible communication in both public and private spaces.
He noted that the growing use of social media has amplified the spread of offensive language, warning that such behaviour undermines moral values and social responsibility.
The remarks come amid the continued circulation of abusive expressions known as “mami cuss” in both online and offline discourse.
