President Julius Maada Bio has sanctioned a 25 percent salary increment for all personnel of the Republic of Sierra Leone Armed Forces (RSLAF), effective April 2026.

This significant announcement was delivered on Tuesday, 18 February 2026, during the Armed Forces Day commemoration held at Wilberforce Barracks, where the President served as the keynote speaker.

In his address, President Bio characterized the compensation adjustment as a formal recognition of the military’s dedicated service to the nation, a strategic investment in force morale, and a clear reaffirmation of the Government's confidence in the Armed Forces.

He officially instructed the Chief of Defence Staff and the Director General of the Ministry of Defence to ensure the complete and timely implementation of the adjustment prior to its effective date in April 2026.

Furthermore, concurrent with the pay increase, the President officially launched the National Defence Policy and Strategy, positioning it as a comprehensive roadmap for achieving a secure, resilient, and confident nation. This policy articulates the government's vision for strengthening national security, enhancing institutional capacity, and improving the operational readiness of the Armed Forces.

The announcement was received with enthusiastic applause from service personnel and distinguished guests, marking a pivotal moment in this year’s Armed Forces Day celebrations.

The 25 percent increase constitutes one of the most substantial adjustments to military compensation in recent history, underscoring a renewed governmental commitment to the welfare and modernization of the Armed Forces.
