WASSCE Registration Deadline Final: No Extension

The Government has definitively stated that the deadline for the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) registration, set for February 28, 2026, will not be extended. Educational institutions are mandated to complete the verification of all prospective candidates through the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) Batch Registration System (BRS) by this date.

During the Government Weekly Press Conference on Tuesday, February 17, 2026, the Minister of Basic and Senior Secondary Education, Conrad Sackey, reported that 163,997 candidates have been successfully cleared and submitted for registration. However, a significant number—55,174 candidates—remain unmatched due to identified data discrepancies or duplication errors.

Minister Sackey underscored the critical necessity for school authorities to meticulously review and rectify these data anomalies prior to the closing date. He unequivocally stated, “The WAEC BRS portal will close on February 28, 2026. There will be no extension.”

Furthermore, the Minister confirmed the government's commitment to subsidize the examination fees for all properly verified candidates whose registration information is accurately completed and submitted. To ensure accountability, school officials are required to execute a Parliamentary-approved undertaking, thereby guaranteeing the integrity and accuracy of the registration data.

The Deputy Minister of Information and Civic Education, Bockarie Abdel-Aziz Bawoh, noted that these stringent measures are designed to enhance transparency, efficiency, and equity throughout the examination process.

The government strongly urges all educational authorities and stakeholders to act with immediate effect to ensure the correct registration of every candidate, thereby preventing any disruption to their ability to sit the WASSCE.
