President Bio Swears In Five Newly Appointed Government Officials

President Julius Maada Bio has sworn in five newly appointed government officials as part of his administration’s latest changes to the Cabinet and senior government positions.

The ceremony was held on Wednesday, September 2, 2026, with Karefa A. Kargbo taking the oath of office as the new Minister of Finance.

Kargbo, a Certified Public Accountant and retired Lieutenant Colonel, previously served as Minister of Foreign Affairs during the National Provisional Ruling Council (NPRC) era. He also served as Executive Director of the Sierra Leone Mines and Minerals Development and Management Corporation.

He assumes responsibility for the Finance Ministry at a time when the government is seeking to strengthen domestic revenue mobilisation, improve public expenditure management and reduce dependence on donor funding. Kargbo holds an MBA in International Finance from American University in Washington, D.C.

Also sworn in were Umaru N. Koroma as Minister of Employment, Labour and Social Security; Jeneba J. Bangura as Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs; Dr. Steven A. Jusu as Deputy Minister of Energy II; and Foday Mousa Fofanah as Deputy Minister of Mines and Mineral Resources.

The appointments were approved by Parliament on August 20, 2026, following the nominees’ appearance before the Parliamentary Appointments Committee.

President Bio congratulated the newly appointed officials and urged them to discharge their responsibilities with dedication, diligence and commitment to national development.

The swearing-in formally clears the way for the officials to assume their respective responsibilities as the government continues to implement its development agenda.
