President Bio Welcomes UN Security Council Resolution on Youth, Peace and Security

President Julius Maada Bio has welcomed the adoption of a United Nations Security Council resolution on Youth, Peace and Security, describing it as a significant milestone and a fitting conclusion to Sierra Leone’s tenure on the Council.

The resolution, co-tabled by Sierra Leone and Guyana, was adopted on Saturday, 13 December 2025. President Bio said the decision reflects a strong global commitment to recognising young people as active partners in peacebuilding rather than passive beneficiaries of policy.

In a public statement, the President stressed that youth must no longer be treated as an afterthought in peace and security discussions, emphasizing that meaningful and lasting peace depends on the direct inclusion of young people in decision-making, conflict prevention, and post-conflict recovery processe

President Bio noted that the resolution aligns with Sierra Leone’s long-standing advocacy for youth empowerment at both national and international levels. He reaffirmed his personal and government’s commitment to continued investment in young people, highlighting their critical role in sustaining peace, stability, and development.

The adoption of the resolution marks one of the final major initiatives of Sierra Leone’s term on the UN Security Council, reinforcing the country’s profile as a strong voice for inclusive governance and youth-centred peacebuilding on the global stage.
