President Bio Calls for End to Military Political Intervention

President Julius Maada Bio has categorically declared the cessation of the era of military intervention in Sierra Leonean politics, emphasizing that the 718 newly commissioned military officers must maintain unwavering loyalty to the Constitution and respect the democratic mandate of the citizenry.

In his address at the commissioning ceremony, President Bio underscored the critical importance of a stable and peaceful democratic environment for the nation's advancement. He cautioned the officers against political destabilization, referencing Sierra Leone's historical experiences, and mandated the preservation of professionalism, discipline, and national cohesion within the armed forces.

The President reminded the new personnel that contemporary security paradigms—encompassing terrorism, cyber warfare, climate change impacts, and regional instability—necessitate a highly professional, expertly trained, and rigorously disciplined military body.

He stressed that the solemn responsibility entrusted to these officers transcends their military uniform, signifying a renewed national commitment to securing peace, fortifying democratic institutions, and ensuring that sovereign authority remains exclusively vested in the civilian government.

President Bio's communication was interpreted as a resolute affirmation of the nation's democratic progress and a clear directive for the permanent continuation of Sierra Leone’s democratic governance.

President Bio concluded by compelling the graduates to honor their oath, exercise leadership with the utmost integrity, and serve the nation with distinction, firmly reiterating the imperative for the armed forces to remain strictly apolitical and fully committed to the Constitution.
