Presidential Aide Criticizes Dr. Majeks-Walker’s Refusal of Board Appointment

The Director of Communications in the Office of the President, Myk Berewa, has publicly voiced strong disapproval of Dr. Nemata Majeks-Walker's decision to decline her recent appointment to the Board of the Guma Valley Water Company.

Dr. Majeks-Walker’s withdrawal came just days after State House announced her selection. In declining the post, she cited "personal and family considerations."

Berewa's reaction, however, was swift and sharply critical of the stated rationale. In a public statement, the presidential aide questioned the nominee's sincerity, stating, “How can you plead for a seat on the board and then refuse it, all while claiming to uphold integrity? I’d choose authenticity over showiness any day.”

His comments underscore the recurring challenges faced by public institutions when high-profile nominees step away from officially confirmed roles. Berewa further noted that while personal choice is a right, public appointments carry significant responsibility and trust, the rejection of which can negatively impact public perception.

As of press time, the Presidency has not issued an official statement regarding Dr. Majeks-Walker’s decision.
