Entertainment executive Ibrahim Koroma, widely known as Prezo Koroma, has officially launched the 5th annual SLEDU National Music Awards, established to recognize outstanding achievements within Sierra Leone’s music industry for works released during 2025.
The official list of nominees, published by the SLEDU Awards Committee, encompasses a comprehensive spectrum of categories, including Song of the Year, Artist of the Year (Male and Female), Album/EP of the Year, Best Collaboration, Producer of the Year, Record Label of the Year, and specific genre awards for Hip Hop, Afrobeats, Dancehall, RnB, Gospel, Islamic, Reggae, and Traditional music. The awards will also honor contributors such as bloggers, DJs, entertainers, and live and stage performers.
Mr. Koroma emphasized that the selection process is strictly merit-based. Nominations were determined through thorough consultation with producers, promoters, and other essential industry stakeholders who actively monitor the music landscape. Selections are predicated on measurable criteria, including overall impact, market popularity, current trends (both offline and online), and audience reception, which incorporates radio airplay and social media engagement. He firmly stated that the awards process remains strictly non-political.
"The awards are conducted entirely on merit, serving to highlight artists and producers who have made meaningful contributions to Sierra Leone’s music scene," stated Koroma.
To guarantee both credibility and transparency, the organizers have formalized a partnership with Eminence Africa. This collaboration will ensure technical support and an independent audit of the entire voting process. The audit results will be publicly disclosed to maintain the highest level of integrity.
The prestigious awards ceremony is scheduled to take place on March 27, 2026, at the Bintumani Conference Centre in Freetown, where the winners will be formally announced. Koroma characterized the awards as a vital platform for celebrating excellence, innovation, and professionalism within Sierra Leone’s music sector, thereby inspiring the next generation of creative talent.
The release of the nominees list signifies a renewed commitment to elevating the domestic music industry, rewarding artistic excellence, and fostering a culture of accountability and creativity among all entertainers.
