Pujehun Council Concludes Quarterly Township Cleaning Exercise
The Pujehun District Council successfully concluded its quarterly township cleaning initiative on Saturday, September 26, 2026. The exercise brought together council staff, local stakeholders, residents, and key community partners to enhance environmental sanitation and public health standards throughout Pujehun Township.
The clean-up targeted major hubs within the township, including Pujehun Town, Gobaru, Yonni, and Massam, alongside surrounding communities such as Manjama, Kpangba, Booro, and Liyawo.
Participants focused on clearing accumulated waste, clearing overgrown vegetation, sanitizing public spaces, and removing debris from main thoroughfares and shared communal areas.
Addressing participants during the exercise, Mohamed M.G.T. Pessima, the Solid Waste Management Focal Point for the Pujehun District Council, underscored the critical need for shared civic responsibility in maintaining public health standards.
"Maintaining a clean environment requires consistent effort from every member of the community," Pessima stated, urging residents to adopt proper waste disposal methods and refrain from practices that clog drainage channels or cause environmental degradation.
Pessima also acknowledged the support provided for the initiative by Dr. David Moinina Sengeh, Chief Minister of the Republic of Sierra Leone and a native of Pujehun District.
In addition to local government efforts, the Council called upon local businesses, commercial bike riders, and community leaders to take proactive ownership of their immediate surroundings and support upcoming civic sanitation drives.
Local residents, including Juana Koroma, actively participated in the field activities alongside local groups, demonstrating strong civic engagement across the district.
The quarterly drive forms part of the Council's broader policy framework aimed at elevating public health infrastructure, mitigating disease vectors, and maintaining general township cleanliness.
The event concluded with a call for sustained community action, encouraging residents to make daily sanitation and responsible waste management a habit rather than an activity confined to scheduled council exercises.
