SLPP Urges Musa Tarawally to Pursue Court Action
The legal team of the Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) has urged counsel representing Hon. Alhaji Musa Tarawally to proceed with court action following the expiration of their seven-day ultimatum.
Responding to correspondence from Tarawally’s legal representatives, the SLPP reiterated its stance on his party membership and flagbearership eligibility, emphasizing that strict constitutional requirements remain paramount.
In previous communications, the ruling party made it clear that any candidate aspiring for the flagbearer position must hold the rank of Distinguished Grand Chief Patron and cannot maintain membership in any other political organization.
Addressing claims regarding Mr. Tarawally’s standing as a Grand Chief Patron, the SLPP legal team noted that such assertions require rigorous verification against the party’s constitution to confirm whether all necessary criteria are met.
The party further dismissed the arguments put forward by Tarawally's counsel as politically counterproductive, stressing that claiming specific party designations obligates full compliance with all relevant constitutional provisions.
With the seven-day notice period now elapsed without resolution, the SLPP reaffirmed its commitment to upholding internal constitutional integrity and welcomed any formal legal proceedings initiated by Mr. Tarawally’s team.
