One Granted Bail, Three Remanded Over Alleged Grievous Harm Case
Four men accused of grievous bodily harm and assault have appeared before a Freetown magistrate in connection with an alleged attack that left a victim injured.
The defendants are 35-year-old businessman Ishmael Turay, 38-year-old bar attendant David Turay, 32-year-old electrician Ibrahim Paul Sangoh, and 32-year-old Mohamed Mohamed Kamara.
They are facing multiple charges, including causing grievous bodily harm with intent, wounding, and assault occasioning actual bodily harm.
According to the court documents, the alleged incident occurred on Thursday, July 23, 2026, at No. 2 River Community, off Peninsular Road in the Western Area of Freetown.
The prosecution alleges that the four defendants unlawfully and maliciously inflicted injuries on Joseph Kamara, with intent to cause him grievous bodily harm. They are also accused of wounding and assaulting him in a manner that resulted in actual bodily harm.
When the charges were read and explained to the defendants, no plea was entered, as the matter is proceeding by way of committal proceedings.
The prosecution, represented by Assistant Commissioner of Police Juan M.S. Bull Esq., requested a short adjournment to enable the prosecution to lead its witnesses.
Meanwhile, defence counsel A.O. Gbla Esq. renewed a previous application for bail on behalf of all four defendants.
Magistrate Mustapha Brima Jah granted bail to the first defendant, Ishmael Turay, in the sum of NLe50,000, with two sureties.
The sureties are required to be Sierra Leonean residents within Freetown, at least 40 years old, and must provide valid identification. Their approval is to be confirmed by the Deputy Assistant Registrar.
The remaining three defendants—David Turay, Ibrahim Sangoh and Mohamed Kamara—were remanded at the Male Correctional Centre in Freetown.
The matter was adjourned to September 29, 2026, for further hearing.
