Renewed Partnership with Karpowership To Boosts Sierra Leone's Electricity Supply

The Ministry of Energy (MoE), in collaboration with the Electricity Distribution and Supply Authority (EDSA), has announced a significant development in its partnership with Karpowership, extending their contract by one year.

This renewed agreement is set to enhance electricity supply and contribute to the nation's socio-economic progress.

According to the new terms, Karpowership will supply 25 MW during the rainy season and 45 MW in the dry season, representing a welcome increase for a nation frequently affected by power shortages. This positive development follows a period of considerable discord between the parties in recent years, primarily due to delayed payments and substantial arrears on the government's part.

These financial difficulties had previously led to public statements regarding Karpowership's potential withdrawal from the country.

The MoE expressed gratitude to Karpowership for their understanding and shared commitment, acknowledging the restructuring of outstanding debt owed to the power provider.

Both parties reaffirm their strong commitment to Sierra Leone's socio-economic development and to supporting the government in achieving its energy sector objectives.

This agreement aims to deliver more accessible and reliable electricity, a vital component for national growth.
