The Ministry of Tourism and Cultural Affairs, in partnership with the National Tourist Board and key industry stakeholders, has reported substantial advancements within Sierra Leone’s tourism sector following a successful delegation to ITB Berlin.

During a press briefing held on Thursday, the Minister of Tourism, Mrs. Nabeela Farida Tunis, noted that engagement from the German market has increased by 40% despite rising travel expenditures. Furthermore, a growing number of visitors are utilizing regional gateways through Guinea and Liberia, signifying a robust international appetite for Sierra Leonean travel experiences.

Mrs. Tunis also unveiled a strategic organizational restructuring of the Ministry, which will expand from two to four specialized directorates. This initiative is designed to enhance institutional professionalism and agility in addressing the evolving complexities of the global tourism landscape.

With "Culture and Creativity" established as the strategic theme for 2026, the government is committed to highlighting the nation’s arts and heritage to secure a competitive advantage. Current priorities include the modernization of the Goalaty complex and critical coastal assets, alongside the cultivation of high-level partnerships with international tour operators and regional West African counterparts.

Tourism has been identified as a primary pillar of Sierra Leone’s national development agenda, serving as a critical driver for revenue, foreign direct investment, and economic diversification. The Ministry urges all stakeholders to utilize sophisticated digital marketing and innovative campaigns to amplify the visibility of the nation’s unique value propositions.

The briefing reaffirmed Sierra Leone’s objective to establish itself as a premier destination in West Africa by integrating authentic cultural immersion with world-class infrastructure and global strategic alliances.
