Retired Officers Tour RSLAF Agricultural Development Sites

A delegation of retired general ranking and senior officers from the Republic of Sierra Leone Armed Forces (RSLAF) conducted a national tour of military agricultural developments on Saturday, October 2, 2026. The inspection aimed to evaluate progress across several key farming initiatives launched by the armed forces.
Accompanied by Chief of Army Staff Major General Kemoh Tewoh Sesay, the veterans inspected active crop fields across multiple regions, assessing operational standards and yield prospects.
Following the inspection, the visiting delegation expressed strong satisfaction with the development of the rice and cashew cultivation sites. The retired officers commended the Deputy Minister of Defence, the Ministry of Defence Director General, and RSLAF leadership for aligning military resources with the national Feed Salone Initiative, which focuses on food security and agricultural development.
Currently, the RSLAF manages 4,837 acres dedicated to rice and cashew production across six distinct agricultural hubs:
Makallay, Port Loko District: 565 acres of cashew plantations in Bakeh Loko Chiefdom
Mankara, Port Loko District: 215 acres of rice fields in Bakeh Loko Chiefdom
Rumbeh, Port Loko District: 366 acres of rice fields in Kama Soto Chiefdom
Masang, Tonkolili District: 691 acres of rice fields in Mamoutha Mayosoh Chiefdom
Yoni, Moyamba District: 1,500 acres of rice fields in Kamajei Chiefdom
Tormabum, Bonthe District: 1,500 acres of rice fields in Bum Chiefdom
Deputy Minister of Defence Colonel (rtd) Muana Brima Massaquoi highlighted that military participation in agriculture is mandated by Section 165(2) of the 1991 Constitution of Sierra Leone. He noted that the constitutional framework authorizes the armed forces to engage in national economic development and food security alongside primary defence duties.
"The RSLAF will assiduously work with the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security and other partners to achieve the Government's Feed Salone Initiative," stated rtd Col Massaquoi.
President Brigadier General (rtd) Dr. Julius Maada Bio is scheduled to participate in a symbolic ceremonial harvest at one of the flagship agricultural sites later this month.
