Samu Chiefdom Inducts Interim Caretaker Chief Amid Ongoing Inquiry

The Ministry of Local Government and Community Affairs has officially inducted Nabieu Yayah Yillah as Caretaker Chief of Samu Chiefdom in Kambia District. The appointment follows the suspension of Paramount Chief Alhaji Bai Shebora Yek II, who is currently under investigation by a Commission of Inquiry.

The temporary leadership change aims to ensure seamless administration and maintain stability within the chiefdom during the inquiry process.

Speaking at the induction ceremony on October 29, 2026, Local Government Minister Ambassador Tamba Lamina urged Chief Yillah to prioritize reconciliation and community unity amidst heightened local tensions.

Minister Lamina advised against unilateral decision-making and partiality, stressing the importance of consulting traditional leadership bodies—including the Speaker, section and town chiefs, and the chiefdom committee—before taking key actions.

Highlighting the chiefdom's strategic border location and associated security challenges, the Minister instructed Yillah to remain present in the area and work closely with district officials, the Council of Paramount Chiefs, and the District Security Committee.

Echoing these sentiments, Permanent Secretary Prince Alex Soriba emphasized a collaborative governance approach. He called on the interim chief to coordinate with the District Officer and security agencies to preserve peace and handle administrative matters effectively.

Accepting the appointment, Chief Yillah expressed gratitude for the trust placed in him and committed to promoting dialogue, peace, and cooperation alongside traditional leaders and residents during his interim tenure.

His induction places him at the centre of efforts to maintain stability in Samu Chiefdom while the inquiry into the suspended Paramount Chief continues.
