The Sierra Leone Road Safety Authority (SLRSA) has implemented new security measures to combat driving licence forgery and safeguard the integrity of the national licensing system.

Speaking on Radio Democracy’s Good Morning Salone program, SLRSA Executive Director James Bio confirmed that eight suspects are currently in police custody as part of an ongoing investigation into fake licence syndicates which constitutes fraud.

To curb illicit manufacturing, the Authority has deployed advanced fingerprint detection technology alongside enhanced biometric verification features to immediately flag counterfeit documents.

“This technology will significantly improve our ability to detect forged credentials and prevent impersonation,” Bio stated, noting that internal audits are also being tightened.

Alongside security upgrades, the SLRSA is expanding its service delivery network nationwide to make official licence acquisition more accessible to the public, aiming to undermine illicit back-channel operators.

Officials emphasized that secure driver verification remains essential for effective traffic law enforcement and maintaining public trust in road safety governance.
