Security Breach at Ernest Bai Koroma University: Alleged Impersonator Apprehended

An individual identified as Abass Sesay was recently detained at the Makeni campus of Ernest Bai Koroma University of Science and Technology (EBKUST). The suspect is alleged to have impersonated a member of the academic faculty to solicit fraudulent payments from students.
Reports from the Students’ Union Government (SUG) indicate that the suspect approached several students under the guise of providing academic favors, including scholarships and examination assistance, in exchange for cash. He had reportedly sent several messages to a lot of students claiming to be in charge of upto three scholarships which can be influenced in a person's favor.
These unauthorized solicitations targeted unsuspecting members of the student body. Following a swift intervention by the SUG Minister of Internal Affairs, the individual was apprehended to prevent further exploitation and maintain the safety of the university environment.
University student leaders emphasized that this decisive action underscores their commitment to safeguarding academic integrity and protecting the welfare of the student population against criminal conduct within the institution.
This incident has prompted a renewed focus on campus security and vigilance.
Students are being encouraged to exercise caution, verify the credentials of academic personnel, and immediately report any irregular or suspicious solicitations to the appropriate authorities.
