A session at Pademba Road Court No. 4 saw security guard Ibrahim Bangura remanded into custody after he vehemently challenged the testimony of a key prosecution witness in a case of fraudulent conversion.
Bangura appeared before Magistrate Adama Kandeh to face allegations that on Saturday, August 2, 2025, he fraudulently converted a blue TVS King 300 Tricycle (Kekeh), valued at Le80,000, which had been entrusted to him for safekeeping. The prosecution contends that the tricycle belonged to Mohamed Deen, the complainant, and was entrusted to Bangura by Sallieu Barrie, who testified as a witness.
During the hearing, police prosecutor A. I. Bangura questioned Barrie, who stated his role in securing tricycles on Jones Street for a daily fee of Le10 per vehicle. Barrie confirmed handing over the blue tricycle, with registration number AXG 958, to Bangura for overnight safekeeping, advising him to secure the vehicle's head to prevent theft.
Barrie testified that the following morning, upon attempting to retrieve the tricycle from Bangura's premises, he was informed by Bangura that it had been collected at 5:00 am. Despite Barrie's insistence that he had not sent anyone nor collected it himself, Bangura maintained his account. Barrie then contacted the complainant, who subsequently went to the scene, detained Bangura, and filed a police report.
In his defense, Bangura, unrepresented by legal counsel, denied the prosecution's account, asserting that Barrie's testimony was false.
Following deliberations, Magistrate Kandeh ordered Bangura's remand at the Pademba Road Male Correctional Centre pending further investigation. The case has been adjourned to Wednesday, September 24, 2025, for a continued hearing.
