Sierra Leone Detainees in Guinea: Government Working for Release

The Government of Sierra Leone confirms the detention of personnel from the Republic of Sierra Leone Armed Forces (RSLAF) and the Sierra Leone Police (SLP) by the Guinean Armed Forces (GAF) on Monday, 23 February 2026.
The incident occurred in Kalieyereh, Sulima Chiefdom, Falaba District, while the Sierra Leonean security team was constructing a border post on recognized national territory.
Several members of the joint security team, including an officer, were reportedly transported into Guinea, and their service weapons were seized. The Government is actively utilizing established diplomatic and security channels to ascertain the precise location of the detained personnel and is working diligently to secure their safe and unconditional release.
Relevant national, regional, and sub-regional bodies have been notified, and a fact-finding mission has been deployed to the area. The public will be updated as verified information becomes available.
