Sierra Leone Ends 2025 Without Fuel Shortages

Sierra Leone concluded 2025 without experiencing the recurrent fuel shortages that have historically plagued the nation, particularly during the festive season. This significant development was confirmed by Presidential Spokesperson Hon. Alpha Kanu, who characterized it as a clear departure from past years marked by scarcity.

Speaking to Liberty Online TV, Hon. Kanu stated that 2025 marked a crucial turning point, noting that fuel stations remained operational throughout the holiday period. This contrasts sharply with previous years when shortages forced closures, inconveniencing motorists and motorcycle operators searching for petrol.

Hon. Kanu attributed this improved stability to strategic government policies that have liberalized and expanded fuel importation, storage, and distribution. These measures have increased market participation, ensuring a consistent supply throughout the year.

The spokesperson highlighted that this consistent availability provides considerable relief to vital economic sectors, including transport operators and traders who rely on fuel for their livelihoods. He concluded that this achievement, alongside gains such as salary increases for teachers, signifies notable progress made during the year.
