Sierra Leone Military Offers Female Medical Scholarships

Female medical students in their clinical years are being offered full single-year scholarships to join the 34 Defence Medical Service of the Republic of Sierra Leone Armed Forces (RSLAF), officials announced today.

The joint initiative spearheaded by UN Women and the RSLAF with funding from the Elsie Fund—aims to boost female participation, leadership, and professional growth across military healthcare and national service roles.

Selected scholars will receive coverage for one year of tuition fees alongside financial assistance for essential academic study materials.

To qualify, applicants must be female clinical-year medical students who are committed to entering military medical service and serving the nation.

Prospective candidates must submit a completed application form, a formal return-of-service agreement, student ID, official transcripts, records of academic awards, and a letter of reference.

Applications can be submitted via email to submissionsle@unwomen.org. Digital application forms are accessible online at unwo.men/xm4C5103goX.

Organizers emphasize that this scholarship program represents a key step forward in empowering female medical professionals to advance their education while making vital contributions to the country’s defence healthcare sector.
