The Rt. Hon. Speaker Segepoh Solomon Thomas delivered a formal commendation during a sitting of Parliament on Thursday, May 28, 2026.
Speaker Thomas described the appointments as a significant milestone for Sierra Leone’s continental representation. He urged all Members of Parliament to take pride in the recognition earned by their colleagues. The Speaker emphasized that these were important positions and that Parliament should be proud that its members had been elected to serve at that level, noting further that both Hon. Bangura and Hon. Silikie had represented the country with distinction.
Regarding Hon. Bashiru Silikie, the head of Sierra Leone’s delegation to the Pan-African Parliament, Speaker Thomas pointed out that Silikie's strong leadership had contributed directly to his election as Rapporteur.
Speaker Thomas encouraged other MPs to emulate the commitment demonstrated by the two lawmakers, asserting that their success reflected positively on the work of the Sixth Parliament. He stated that parliamentary leadership engagements at the international level had consistently shown that Sierra Leone’s delegation maintains an active role in continental legislative affairs.
The Speaker also stressed that the Pan-African Parliament frequently engages with Sierra Leone’s delegation on key issues, suggesting that the recent elections provided clear evidence of the nation’s growing influence.
The session concluded with an ovation from Members of Parliament, who recognized the achievement as a proud moment for Sierra Leone’s legislative representation on the continental stage.
