Sierra Leone Records 78.2% Pass Rate in 2026 NPSE Results

The Ministry of Basic and Senior Secondary School Education (MBSSE) has announced the preliminary results for the 2026 National Primary School Examination (NPSE), showing a national pass rate of 78.2%. 

This performance marks a slight improvement from the 78% recorded in 2025. Out of the 160,161 candidates who sat for the examination across 5,228 primary schools, a total of 125,498 pupils successfully attained the required cutoff score of 230 or above.

Minister Conrad Sackey addressed the nation following the announcement on Tuesday, 11 August 2026, praising the broad participation and the efforts of all students. 

“To all 160,161 pupils who sat this examination: you showed up, you answered the call, and you are building Sierra Leone,” the Minister stated, acknowledging the dedication of the candidates regardless of their individual outcomes.

In a specialized message to those who did not meet the passing threshold, Minister Sackey offered strong words of encouragement, urging them not to view the result as a finality. 

“To those who did not pass: this is not an ending. 

The Ministry will remove the obstacles that held you back. Return next year. We will be waiting for you,” he assured, emphasizing the government's commitment to addressing systemic barriers and improving foundational learning conditions.

The Ministry plans to release a comprehensive technical report during the first week of the 2026–2027 academic year. 

This upcoming report will provide detailed analytics on district-level performance, identifying top-performing schools and categories to further guide educational improvements nationwide.
